Small Teapots

As part of my summer decor refresh, I have a teapot vignette in the dining room.

The mirror on our hutch always makes photos tricky!

This sweet teapot rests on its own cup and the lemon and insect design is just perfect for summertime! See the bee on the teapot and butterfly on the cup? I received this as a gift several years ago from my aunt. I just added a vessel of faux lemons and limes and a white plate to complete the vignette.

The other teapots were all family pieces that my mother has shared with me over the years since she knows how much I treasure and enjoy displaying these types of things. She was given them by her mother and grandparents. Aren't they precious little teapots?

I hope your day was happy!

Going Buggy!

The patriotic decorations are packed away and so I did a summer refresh by adding touches of insects (mostly butterflies) throughout the house decor. This wallhanging is new this year. I was able to create it after one of my sisters-in-law gave me the two linen pieces, each stitched with an insect that has lovely detail and color. I believe she picked them up at an antique mall. I already had the rectangular frame and decided to repurpose it for this display. Not exactly square, they couldn't be perfectly centered in the frame.

I enjoy switching out artwork to go with the seasons and placed this in the dining room to remain until fall. It doesn't bug me at all!

Blackberry Cobbler

It's blackberry season and our crop is plentiful this year and so I decided to use some of the fresh, juicy fruit to make a cobbler for the freezer. This is a simple recipe and the dessert turns out well.                                                 Blackberry Cobbler

2  1/2 cups fresh blackberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter, melted

In a medium bowl, stir together blackberries and sugar. Lightly mash blackberries. Let stand 20 minutes until syrup forms.

In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Stir in melted butter until blended. Spread in an ungreased 8 inch pan. Spoon blackberries over batter. Bake 45 to 55 minutes or until dough rises and is golden. Serve warm with whipped cream on top.

If you would like a printable version of the recipe, click here.

                                      Enjoy!

Tuesday Tablescape

Our daisies are in full bloom and look so pretty! I love the contrast of their crisp white petals and sunny yellow centers. They were my inspiration for today's tablescape.

The cheery flowers perfectly match these lovely dishes for which I have such fondness. We have enjoyed using them since a friend gave them to me five years ago. You can click here to reread the account of my acquiring them.

I used the creamer pitcher from the hostess pieces to hold some greenery and freshly-picked daisies for the table.

Be blessed today!

Patriotic Mantel

Each summer I hang our patriotic print above the fireplace. It's always in place by the time we celebrate Memorial Day and remains in place at least through the fourth of July.

This year I added a black planter and two stars that I had on one side...

and my new ratton lantern on the other. This piece was a new purchase at Five Below for $5. I think it technically qualifies as  boho style, but it works well with any decor. I have a candle in mine, but you could also add strings of fairy lights which would look pretty.

I always enjoy decorating the house with red, white and blue touches for this time of year.

GOD BLESS AMERICA, OUR HOME SWEET HOME!

Happy Fourth of July!

We hope that you have a blessed weekend as we celebrate America's birthday!

By the way, you will notice a new look in occasion of the blog's sixth anniversary, which was on Thursday. I opted to implement nature backgrounds and have one for each of our seasons.
