Christmas Music

I think music is a special part of Christmas.♫♬♪ It's the perfect time of year for symphonies, choirs, concerts and children's productions. We have a couple of local radio stations that play nothing but seasonal tunes from November through Christmas Day. Even though I am tempted, I won't listen to it until the day after Thanksgiving! In addition to turning the dial, I love pulling out our personal collection of favorite Christmas CDs. Both instrumental and vocal choices make me happy. We even put the timer on the radio so that we can listen to Jingle Bells, Silent Night, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and all the other well-known songs as we drift off to sleep. However, think back to years past. What did we do before Pandora and iTunes and CDs? Before cassettes and 8 tracks? Ah, yes...remember our records?

These Christmas albums have been around forever! A few of the record jackets are even repaired with packing tape after the edges were worn by loving use.

This was probably my favorite growing up. I was drawn to the peppy brassy-versions of the Christmas tunes.
The Chipmunks have always made me laugh and I recall taking the Santa one to nursery school to share with my classmates for an audio show-and-tell. Randy had a Chipmunks album, too, but one of his sisters accidentally stepped on it and broke it. He's never forgotten it, either! 😊

Have you been noticing all the record players turntables in the ads this year? A couple of weeks ago I heard a story on the radio about the comeback of vinyl and record players. Wow! Lots of the things cycle back around, don't they? It makes me happy that we still have two record players in our house. I usually play Christmas albums a time or two each year during the season and I didn't even know I was on the cusp of the trend!!

Do you still have old albums? How about a turntable? Do you love Christmas music, too? Let's grab a cup of cocoa and listen to some classic old seasonal tunes.
