I recently purchased one of those fresh grocery store pizzas you bring home to bake. The instructions called for placing the pizza directly on the oven rack. Regrettably, I ignored the little voice in my head suggesting I line the rack beneath with foil in an effort to protect the bottom of my oven. When I removed the piping hot entrée, I also found these varnish-like spots. 🙄Ugh! I wish I had listened to myself!
Although my oven has a self-cleaning steam system, I suspended that practice after a repairman strongly suggested my doing so because of safety issues. He told me to use baking soda and vinegar instead and that's what I have been doing ever since. Sprinkle liberal amounts of baking soda directly on the spots and then pour vinegar over that. My favorite part is when it fizzes and bubbles because it's like an elementary science experiment! After it sits for about 30 minutes, you are able to gently wipe/scrub it clean. I will say that this particular mess was stubborn and I needed to reapply the concoction, let it sit extra long and pull in the stronger arm of my husband.
It worked, though, and I did not resort to the use of any chemicals (which is always my goal).
Looks like there are a few baking soda spots on the front ledge there.
I guess I need to rewipe that!

You may remember my drain maintenance suggestion, which also uses vinegar and baking soda. Click here to revisit that post. Another natural cleaning method for silver may be viewed here.
If you're doing a little Friday oven, drain or silver cleaning, be sure you schedule a break. It's National Donut Day, so I recommend that you treat yourself. After all, we "donut" want you working too hard! Have a happy weekend!
