Don Robinson State Park

Since the state park system in MO is celebrating the 100th anniversary, we have been making an effort to visit as many of the parks as possible the past year, or so. One of our newest locations is Don Robinson State Park in Cedar Hill, MO.

It's a peaceful, quiet spot with rolling hills, beautiful woods and sandstone rock cliffs. There are several lovely hiking paths as well as picnic areas.

This parcel of land belonged to Don Robinson who began buying property in Jefferson county in the 1960s. He enjoyed living out in the countryside and took up residence in the pre-existing cottage on the land. It had been built in the late 1920s and, over his lifetime, Don Robinson added on to it. Although it is surrounded by a brown fence at this point, it is hoped that it will ultimately be restored and put to use.

An interesting fact is how this individual acquired his money. Have you ever used the household cleaner, OFF ? He developed it and then sold it on late-night infomercials.

We Missourians are thankful that he bequeathed all of his homestead to the state so that everyone can enjoy it! No matter where you live, I recommend that you take advantage of these sanctuaries to catch your breath and enjoy nature.

We visited this park in early spring, but it would be a terrific place to go this autumn when the woods are dressed in all their splendor!
