Legend of the Dogwood

Our dogwood blossoms opened today!

The Legend of the Dogwood
In Jesus' day, the dogwood trees grew as tall and strong as oaks. For this reason, the cross was built from its timber. To be used for such a purpose distressed the tree and it was sad. Jesus sensed this and told the tree that from then on dogwoods would grow to be small, slender and bent trees. Therefore, it would never again be suitable to be used for a cross. The blossoms, however, would be representative of the story. Four petals would make a cross.

The rusty brown spots show the nail prints with the center being the crown of thorns. That way, all of these traits would cause people to remember.

Enjoy your weekend!
