Mercy Me!

As an early birthday gift, we went to see the contemporary Christian band, Mercy Me, Saturday night while they were on tour. In stormy weather, 6,000 of us filled an arena to listen to their music and messages. It was awesome! Opening bands, Zealand Worship and Citizen Way also played and everything we heard was wonderful.

Mercy Me is comprised of five guys. Bart Millard originally started the band 22 years ago while a youth pastor. At that time there were four members; today there are five (still the original four). When he felt a calling to form the group, he shared the news with his grandma. She replied, "Mercy Me! Why don't you get a real job?" and the band was named! That same woman was responsible for the band's signature song, I Can Only Imagine. When Bart's father (her son) died, the grandma said, "I can only imagine what he can see". It took Bart a few years to write the song, but it eventually came together and is likely their most popular piece. My favorite, however, is Greater.

Since Mercy Me has been around so long, they have followers of all ages. We saw everyone some infants to some elderly on walkers and everything in between.  Families attended with their children and whether old or young, it was apparent that everyone had a joyful experience!
