DIY Frame

I’m sure you’ve been noticing all the glam in stores, store ads and flyers, magazines and online. There are both gold and silver metal accents in wall hangings and frames, accent tables and accessories. Here is a little DIY project to bring some sparkle to a picture frame. You’ll need a cardboard picture mat (I popped out one from an old picture frame I had on hand), old CDs, adhesive and sturdy scissors. By the way, you'll want a light colored mat.

We’ve had these sheers forever. They are supposed to be strong enough to cut through a penny, I think, so I grabbed them. I happened to have a healthy stack of CDs in my craft room because I have never been able to bring myself to chuck them in the landfill and also because teachers are resourceful packrats and keep these sort of things “just in case” they could be useful in a classroom project.

Snip the CDs into small, irregular pieces. Due to the possibility of these jagged pieces flying, wear glasses or goggles to protect your eyes. I used two CDs for my frame. Attach the pieces, mosaic style, to the frame with either hot glue or a substantial glue, such as Tacky.

Between the edges, smooth a thin layer of Elmer’s and sprinkle some sort of glitter. I would not recommend typical, fine glitter. Something larger works better for this purpose. I happened to have some star-shaped glitter in my craft room so I used that. It doesn’t have to be applied so heavily that it's solid. It's fine to allow the background to show through some.
With the light reflecting, the photos picked-up a lot of color. In person, however, the frame has more of a mirrored appearance.
