I'll begin fall decorating in about a week, but wanted to share a simple pillow idea I'll be using this season. It all began when I spotted these unusual window decorations at our local Dollar Tree.
Unlike the thin transparent window clings I used for every theme, holiday and season at school, these are a more substantial firm plastic. I liked the way that they have a rather hammered-metal appearance in tasteful autumn colors. I wouldn't use them on the windows, though, so I passed on them until it occurred to me that I could use them on fabric. Hmmm...would they work on this little toss pillow? The pillow was, by the way, a $3 grab from the bargain bin at Old Time Pottery long ago.
The pumpkins and ghord don't seem to leave any residual stickiness, so I decided to give it a try on material.
I smacked them on, pressed down the edges very firmly and I have an autumn pillow! How easy peasy is that?!
It's fun to dress-up pillows for very little expense. You may recall my sunflower pillow project from last summer (click on Sunny Sunflowers)
and the leaf pillow from last fall (click on Fall Pillows), both of which had the same objective.
I'm pleased by the fact that the dollar store decorations reflect light from the window and they seem to have given the pillow a little pick-me-up for the season. I saved the packaging and I will attempt to reuse them next year, but it's hard to tell how the adhesive backs will hold-up over time after being peeled from the pillow. I probably should wrap the original packaging in another bag in an effort to make it all as airtight as possible. Naturally, I wouldn't trust this pillow on a piece of furniture that's used daily. It will do just fine for a decorative pillow, though, so it works for me!
Are you beginning to think about fall?
